Have you ever wondered what it would be like to work at an advertising agency? Ever wondered what it would be like to live through the tumultuous times of the 1960’s? If so, than Mad Men is the perfect show for you.

Created by a former writer of The Sopranos, the show revolves around the life of Don Draper (Jon Hamm), an ad executive of Sterling Cooper in New York City. Don is married to Betty (January Jones), with whom he has two children. Don is not a perfect husband however, as he has a mistress on the side and many nights doesn’t even come home. Don also has to deal with problems at work, such as the young, competitive, up and comer Pete Campbell (Vincent Kartheiser) who is desperately trying to get a leg up in the business world by any means necessary.

These three characters aren’t the sole focus of Mad Men as the show has an ensemble cast all of whom have their own storylines. One of the best aspects of this show is that every character is fascinating and well acted, with every action telling the audience more about what each character is truly like. Add in the references to sixties pop culture such as two characters talking about Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho, and you’ve got a winning formula.

The winner of six Emmys, Mad Men is a show that is not only extremely entertaining, but is also the most subtle and brilliant show on television.
