Lost closes its 100th episode with a bang

That was surprising. Wednesday's Lost made time travel even more confusing while revealing a bit of Faraday’s background. If his mother seemed like a colossal bitch at the beginning of the episode, that was nothing compared to the cold, hard look on her face when she shot him in the back. So with Faraday dead, who the heck is going to explain what’s going on?
The episode started with Desmond being brought into the hospital on a stretcher, with a sobbing Penny following close behind. Desmond ends up being fine, but before we know that, Eloise Hawking shows up and says something cryptic about Faraday screwing everything up. Cut to ‘70s Faraday who is now convinced that he can change the past. In his scientific terms, he was so focused on the constants that he forgot the variables, meaning people. Their free will allows the past to change, which in turn allows the future to change. He wants to blow up the H-bomb called “Jughead” to stop the Dharma folks from accidentally releasing a massive amount of energy. That energy will be controlled by pushing the hatch button every 108 minutes, and Desmond failing to push the button will crash Oceanic 815. If he can stop the energy from being released, he can stop the plane from crashing.
Daniel’s plan is foiled when he goes into the Hostiles’ camp looking for his mother and ends up getting shot by her. That’s right, Eloise is Ellie the bomb-burier, making Faraday’s daddy the one and only Charles Widmore. So now there’s yet another person on the long list of castaways with parental issues. The episode ends with Faraday telling Eloise he’s her son. We don’t know that he’s dead, but he seemed pretty dead. Eloise shot him because he was pointing a gun at Richard, but wouldn’t it be better for everyone to see just what would happen if Richard was shot? Would it just bounce off of him, or would the smoke monster come out and bite Faraday’s head off?
Also in a pickle are Sawyer and Juliet, who are now being held at gunpoint by the Dharma people. The angry guy found Phil locked in the closet, so maybe the guns are justified, but poor Suliet. They were so happy! One of the best parts of the episode is the look on Juliet’s face when Sawyer calls Kate “Freckles.” That mixture of hurt and anger was so sad. Hopefully their being hauled away will give Juliet more to do than sip tea while Sawyer runs everything.
Now it’s going to be Jack and Kate’s mission to follow Faraday’s journal and prevent the incident so they never have to crash on the island. Really, why would they want to stop the plane from crashing? Their lives were all pretty crappy before they crashed, and they should’ve learned their lesson when they tried to go back the first time.
