Every year, Roger Ebert's film festival, Ebertfest, takes over downtown Champaign for five days. From April 21 through April 25 of next year, the film festival will be showing 12 movies that Ebert himself deemed mandatory viewing for the moviegoing public. Next year's festival will be the 12th year of the festival, and is sure to bring worldwide press to our campus.

Now you're probably wondering, how do I get tickets? Passes for Ebertfest will go on sale November 1st, at midnight. These passes will allow you entry to all 12 movies. The passes cost $125. If you don't want to go to each movie, tickets for individual films will not go on sale until April 5, at which point they will cost $12 ($10 for students and seniors).

The list of guests attending and films showing will be announced in March.

Festival passes costing that much never made sense to me. You could pick out just 2 of 12 movies to miss (usually not difficult to do) and pay less than $125 -- and that's if you're not a student. If you're a student, seeing every movie costs less than a pass.

The only advantage of the festival pass is a chance for better seats, which isn't that big of a deal in the Virginia. Every seat is a good seat with that gigantic screen.
