Imbedded in the walls of Gregory Halls is a mysterious safe. The safe is in the wall directly across from room 100, the auditorium. Engraved on the safe is the message:

The Editors Hall of Fame

Established by the Illinois Press Association to perpetuate the spirit and achievements of great editors. Placed in the custody of the University of Illinois

1927- ---

I spoke with some workers from the College of Communications-Office of the Dean in Gregory Hall to seek out information for what is locked up in the mystifying safe, but they don’t know either. “It came up a year or two ago,” one office worker said, “No one knows what’s inside though; they couldn’t find anyone with a key.”

Another worker added that it would be interesting to see what is inside the safe. However she doesn’t believe that it is anything significant since no one, including professors who have taught at the University for many years, can shed light as to what is inside. We may never know what is locked up in the Gregory Hall safe, at least until someone discovers the key or cracks it open.
