It’s throwback night this Saturday as an eclectic mix of CU musical alumni drop by the Canopy Club for the Green St. Records Showcase. The night’s lineup includes Animate Objects, Bullet Called Life, The Lifeline and Missing the Point. After years of gracing stages here on campus, these bands are now on touring circuits in Chicago and beyond. The Saturday night homecoming will give these bands, and you, a chance to rock out in hometown accord and possibly catch up on old times over a glass of chilled wine. Or something like that.

There’s a little something for everyone at this show: the chill hip hop of Animate Objects, the classic rock-influenced Bullet Called Life, the crunchy violin-laden late alternative era sounds of The Lifeline and the poppy Missing the Point. If you were ever curious as to what the CU scene sounded like before you arrived, or if you’ve waited for a reunion show like this as an opportunity to come out of hiding and satisfy your nostalgic desires (estranged sophomore year roommate - I’m calling you out), then prepare to be rocked… old-skool-style!

Green St. Records Showcase is $5 and the show begins at 6:30pm at the Canopy Club.

I was at the Green Street Records Showcase and I have to say it had something for everyone. The highlight of the evening (not only for me but from the audience in general based on reactions) was the set by Animate Objects which had the most crowd involvement and the most heads bobbing. If you are up in Chicago next week and are over 21, Animate Objects has a show up there that you shouldn't miss and also a few coming up in St. Louis with more on the way. Also check out their music video for their award winning track El Dorado (a Beats and Rhymes mainstay) on their website www.animate-objects.com which is flat out ridiculously awesome. Also pick up the album Ridin' in Fast Cars With Your Mama, all you Roots fans out there and hip hop fans in general will love it.

Again, great show, the bands rocked it so you really can't go wrong with 'em or any under the green st. records banner. and for all of you who didn't go, let this be a lesson to you to go out and get in every concert you can because it's infinitely better than sitting alone in your depressing tiny apartment/dorm room.
