Who wouldn’t want to savor a refreshing sorbet paired with fresh fruit on a hot summer day? Whether you need to wind down after a hectic day or simply relish the company of friends or family with a cool treat that everyone can enjoy, a glass of ‘Fruit Cup Punch’ is an excellent addition to any ritual of summer repose. This beverage requires spoons and a bit of preparation, but it is absolutely worth it. To create this delicious twist on a classic fruit punch / fruit cup combination at home, you will need the following ingredients:

    Ingredients:
    4 oz. hulled strawberries
    2 oz. blueberries
    1 tbsp superfine sugar
    6 tsp vodka (optional)
    1 pint ginger ale
    4 large scoops orange sorbet
    1 1/2 tbsp grenadine

    Directions:
Slice the strawberries in half, then place them into a bowl with the raspberries, blueberries, and sugar.

Pour the vodka over the fruit and sugar (if desired) and lightly toss these ingredients together. Cover the mixture and chill for at least 30 minutes in order to give the fruit time to absorb the vodka.

Put the ginger ale into a blender or food processor with the sorbet. Process until smooth.

Pour the blended sorbet and ginger ale into 4 wide-mouthed glasses of adequate depth. Add a couple of ice cubes to each glass, then spoon approximately 1 tsp grenadine into each glass. Once the fruit, sugar, and vodka mixture has chilled, evenly distribute it among the four glasses. Garnish with a sprig of mint for an added touch of elegance, if desired. Enjoy!

What ‘Fruit Cup Punch’ lacks in simplicity, it makes up for in versatility. The superfine sugar and grenadine will keep for a respectable amount of time, and the remaining ingredients are foods and drinks that can be enjoyed individually. Kids love grenadine. Its super-sweet pomegranate flavor is exotic yet familiar. Also, it goes without saying that having extra fruit around the house to encourage nutritious snacking couldn’t possibly have negative results. Sip and spoon this chilly taste sensation as a dessert ideal for dinner parties and other such gatherings, or just relax and enjoy it as a little something sweet on a lazy day. However you choose to delight in this beverage, let the mingling flavors of pomegranate, berry, and orange transport you to summer bliss.

Suggestion: I have found that strawberry or raspberry sorbet also works very well in this beverage. Experiment with other flavors of sorbet to create your own favorite combination!
