Check it Art
Everyday appreciation

As the semester comes to a close and we all finish our last finals in anticipation of summer plans, “Check It Art” must also make way for the summer. I decided to dedicate my last little art report of the semester to our beloved Quad and its too often underappreciated architectural value. During finals week it is so easy to make a beeline for whatever lecture hall your next final is in, especially when you’re sleep deprived and running on that Red Bull you stole from your roomie.
I took a minute sitting on the Quad — studying — to look at the variety of buildings that I pass everyday. Follenger Hall is breathtaking. Its placement at the end of the Quad gives it an omniscient presence. The structure sits watching over the entire quad; its regal place at the end of a long table. The place I visit most, the English Building, has a quaint existence even though the size of it is quite large. Its large white pillars and surrounding trees give it a comforting and very welcoming feel.
Each building has its own character, something I never noticed until I took a look at their individual architecture. From the Foreign Language Building’s very unique and shapely structure to Lincoln Hall’s presidential quotes and strong professional stance, the Quad holds a variety of shapes, sizes and characters that will most definitely linger in our college memories.
