I think it’s time for a haircut. My hair is possibly the longest it’s ever been and I fear that I’m entering Woodstock/Little House on the Prairie territory. But while it’s obvious that it’s time for a haircut, I’m not so sure about which style I should go with.
My entire life I’ve gone through cycles of growing my hair long, suddenly getting so annoyed with it that I cut it short, and then spending the next year growing it out and wallowing in regret.
Hairstyles, whether we like it or not, tell a lot about us. For instance, my father has a simple, low-maintenance Dad-style cut that is combed slightly to the right. It says, “I’m responsible and uncomplicated” to anyone he meets.
In contrast, artsy buzz photography editor Greg Hinchman opts for a shaggier ‘do he says he (rarely) cuts himself with a pair of dull scissors. This haircut is in its element Greg zooms around campus on his BMX bike and his golden locks blow in the wind.
For ladies the choices are even more complicated. Recently, female celebrities like Katie Holmes have been cutting their long locks off into short bobs, and her current look is the haircut I’m considering. The only downfalls are that this cut requires a high level of maintenance and everyone has it.
Then there’s the un-trendy regular haircut that I have now. It’s just long hair with long bangs, combed to the side. It’s classic, like a vanilla shake. I can put it in a ponytail when I’m rushing to class or the buzz office, and I can curl it if I’m going somewhere fancy. It’s all-purpose.
While there’s something about a rockin’ haircut that makes you feel brand-new, I’m not so sure I’m ready to cut it all off. My haircut says, “I’m busy, and this is all I have time for.” After all, they say honesty is the best policy.

I'm a proponent of the "Just let it grow" mindset. Trim the split ends once in awhile. Maybe force it into submission with a wet hairbrush every morning. It seems to work for me, anyway.

I asked my stylist for the Katie Holmes bob and ended up getting the Suri Cruise.

Hey cousin. I have to admit I laughed when you mentioned your dad's "responsible and uncomplicated" haircut. My dad pretty much has the same 'do going on. :)
