Gilt Groupe takes online shopping to a fashionable level

Everyday around noon, the red notification light on my blackberry starts to blink, and what else could it be but the daily e-mail from Gilt Groupe.
For those of you who don’t know what Gilt.com is, buzz is here to save your day and your fashion woes.
Gilt is an online website that has taken online shopping to a whole new level of e-commerce. This two-year-old company is a sample-sale based company, selling everything from high fashion clothing to luxury jewelry and home goods. Whatever you want, the Gilt Groups can provide it at the click of a button.
But wait — this site isn’t just for girls; it’s for everyone. Gilt Groupe has Gilt Man for the fashion-forward male and Jetsetter for those who want to getaway on great deals.
What makes Gilt Groupe so innovative is more than just its bargain prices; it’s the fashion discovery that they offer each day. Gilt offers bargains from different designers each day and offers an endless variety of merchandise. One day, it’s offers from Marc Jacobs and BCBG. The other day, it’s Vera Wang and jewelry from Gemma Redux and Jennifer Rose.
“I love that I’m introduced to new designers all the time. Without it, I can guarantee that I wouldn’t have heard of most of these,” said Annie Colletti, a U of I senior in the College of Media.
Lets face it, living in Central Illinois limits store access to top designers and fashion trends, but Gilt Group can send you daily e-mails, which allows you to reveal the world of fashion without the high tag prices or the annoying sales clerks.
You not only have access to the pictures of the merchandise, but also loads of information on the product before you have it shipped to your front door.
So how does this website work exactly?
Gilt Groupe thrives on its customers and its willingness to help out the brands that may have seen a dip in their own sales due to the recession. Gilt became a safety net for companies by buying up merchandise designers thought would be hot sellers.
Gilt Groupe has also motivated web traffic to designers' direct websites. I guess every brand needs someone to lean on and customers, no matter where they live need to stay trendy. Thanks to Gilt Groupe CEO Susan Lyne, that’s finally a possibility.
