While many people focus on Marvels like the X-Men and Spider-man, DC Comics brings many Distinct Characters to the table, like Batman and Superman. Of course, there are more characters in DC than you may know about, and this week I’ll highlight some of these lesser-known heroes.

Shadowpact — The DC Universe has entered into the 10th Age of Magic. The world of the supernatural is in flux and a team of mystical B-list heroes was formed to regulate these vast changes. Blue Devil was a stunt man until dark energies fused his demon costume to his skin, making him a true devil. One of the world’s leading crime-solvers, the intelligent Detective Chimp is also a member. Other team members include Enchantress, Ragman, Nightshade, Nightmaster, and the angel and former Justice League member Zauriel. Written by Bill Willingham (Fables, Jack of Fables), this series uses these little known characters to redefine the ideas of continuity in the DC Universe. Random and cheesy characters that were a footnote in other comics are still important parts of this world and stand with the likes of the Teen Titans, Batman, and Superman. And Shadowpact is not just another random team book — Willingham is able to comment on these characters and the superhero genre in general with his character drama and non-stop action, much like what he does with Fables. My favorite part of this team is their superhero code, modeled after Isaac Asimov’s I, Robot protocols:

· First Law: The lives and safety of innocent by standers will always be protected.

· Second Law: The lives and safety of you (the superhero) and members of your team will be protected to the extent that it does not con-flict with the First Law.

· Third Law: The lives and safety of all oppo-nents will be protected to the extent that it

doesn’t conflict with the first two Laws.

The second volume featuring these heroes, Shadowpact Vol. 2: The Curse TPB, was released yesterday.

The Metal Men — After a month-long hiatus, The Metal Men series returned with it’s fifth issue yesterday. Created by pipe-smoking Will Magnus, who was re-popularized by his inclusion in 52, The Metal Men are sentient robots that can adjust their metal bodies into different and humorous shapes. Each robot has a different element that it is made of: Gold, Iron, Led, Tin, Platinum, Copper, and my favorite, Mercury — the “only metal liquid at room temperature.”

Teen Titans — Please forget the Amerime (American-made-anime) Teen Titans cartoon if you have seen it. Trying to become better heroes and adults, the Teen Titans reformed a few years ago to give the newer teen heroes direction. After the radical Crisis-related changes that swept the DC Universe, the team has never been the same (all of the original members have left). Led by the current Robin, Tim Drake, the team is home to the teen counterparts of Superman, the Martian Manhunter, Deathstroke, Blue Beetle, Blue Devil, and Wonder Woman.
