The Digital Domain completes its series on digital video conversion this week with a look at free software option for burning movies and video files to a playable DVD.

DVD Flick is a free, incredibly capable DVD authoring program which burns almost any video file across a huge spectrum of formats to a DVD to watch on your television. The program features a capable converter which encodes these files to MPEG-2 (without any noticeable loss of quality) and begins authoring the DVD.

The interface is clean and simple, and there are very few hoops to jump through in order to start burning your own DVD’s. The process, however, is time consuming and incredibly taxing on system resources; leave it running overnight or while you’re away. On my system, the combined conversion and burning process took a little over ten hours for a 90-minute movie.

DVD Flick is an attractive and effective free program in a sea of expensive alternatives.
