Opening This Weekend

:

Speed Racer

Watching the trailer for this brightly colored adaptation of the cartoon makes me feel like I’m tripping on acid. But hey, it’s from the guys who directed The Matrix movies. And Christina Ricci’s hair looks cool.

What Happens in Vegas

Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher go to Vegas, get drunk and get married. They also win a $3,000,000 jackpot but each claims it as his or her own. Forced to live together, they both scheme to try to get the other one to file for divorce and give up the money.

The Tracey Fragments

Opening only in New York, the story is told using split screens. Ellen Page stars as Tracey, a girl who is riding on the back of a bus wrapped only in a shower curtain, searching for her missing brother. Should be uplifting.

Last Week’s Flicks

:

Iron Man

Robert Downey Jr. stars as Tony Stark, a billionaire industrialist who is kidnapped and forced to build a weapon. Instead, he builds a high-tech suit and becomes the superhero Iron Man. Sweet!

Made of Honor

Tom (Patrick Dempsey) is best friends with Hannah (Michelle Monaghan). Right when he realizes that he wants to be more than friends, she returns from a trip to Scotland and announces that she is getting married, and she wants Tom to be her maid of honor. He agrees and tries to find a way to stop the wedding.

Son of Rambow

A British boy who has grown up in a puritanical cult in which television and movies are banned somehow sees First Blood and decides to make his own version of the film. He gets some help from the school bully and a cool French kid.

New on DVD

:

P.S. I Love You

Hilary Swank’s Irish husband, Gerard Butler, just died. Before he did that, though, he wrote her a bunch of letters and arranged for them to be sent to her at random times over the course of a year. Sappiness, singing and a trip to Ireland ensue. It makes for a nice chick flick.

Over Her Dead Body

Paul Rudd stars as a guy who consults a psychic to try to get over his dead fiancée, played by Eva Longoria Parker. He and the psychic end up falling for each other, but their romance is jeopardized by the fact that his fiancée’s ghost is haunting the psychic. Honestly, I’d rather watch Rudd in a Judd Apatow movie. Or Clueless.

The Hottie & The Nottie

There’s a reason this movie flopped. It might have something to do with the fact that it stars Paris Hilton as the hottie. Or maybe it’s just the fact that it looks completely ridiculous.
