As almost any Midwesterner knows, the time between the end of August and the beginning of September is generally one of the most humid, hot and unbearable times of the year. Not this year. With temperatures averaging between the upper seventies and lower eighties, this time of the year has never felt so good. In honor of this rare, beautiful weather, buzz has compiled a list of some of the best places to eat outside.

Aroma Café/Pekara Bakery & Bistro – Located on Neil Street between University Ave. and Church Street, the back patio of Aroma Café and Pekara offers a quaint seating area perfect for sipping on some coffee or eating a scone. Situated between two brick buildings between which are strung lines of soft white lights, the patio is completely secluded from the streets, giving it a European feeling. The patio also features live music every Thursday night.

Kennedy’s at Stone Creek – Situated on Stone Creek Golf Course, Kennedy’s offers sweeping views of the soft, rolling knolls and placid ponds of the 230 acre golf course. Known for the certified Angus beefsteak and fresh seafood, the open patio seating area makes it seem as though you are eating your meal on tee nine.

Café Luna – Housed in the Old Train Station on the corner of Chestnut Street and University Ave., Café Luna’s brick patio is a great place to enjoy some gelato or bananas flambé. Secluded among rows of shrubs and trees with soft jazz music lingering from the inner restaurant, the intimate setting of the patio is perfect for a first date or catching up with a close friend.

Biaggi’s Ristorante Italiano – Specializing in Italian cuisine, Biaggi’s, located on South Neil Street, provides all the essentials to creating that authentic Italian atmosphere. Live music, a covered patio and a large selection of wine makes dining on the patio feels as if you are sitting in a Roman piazza rather than central Illinois.

Guido’s Bar and Grill– With a large outside seating area and some of the best American style food around, Guido’s is a great place to grab a beer, watch a cubs game and just relax. Its location in the center of the downtown Champaign area gives it that metropolitan sports bar feel that is hard to find outside of the Chicago area.
