Quick! What's neutral and is awesome?!?!

So you’ve got your meal pretty much ready to go — whether it’s eggs, fish, chicken or shrimp, breakfast or dinner. You need something to serve with it. Maybe salad, or maybe even fruit would work, but what about the pounds and pounds of rice you have in your pantry that you can’t seem to muscle through? Make some use of it!

Serve up some congee with your meal. Congee is a gruel of boiled rice and water and is commonly used as a background to most main dishes we eat on a daily basis. This dish is very common in China and a popular breakfast item, says thaifoodandtravel.com, a Web site specializing in overseas cultural research.

You probably are more familiar with this dish as rice porridge. Don’t make it out to be as boring as it sounds, though. You can spice up this dish with cilantro, garlic, scallions or ginger.

Ok, maybe you’re not a rice fan. So what’s the appeal here? Congee is a great way to fight illness, digestive problems and even fatigue. Who can’t use a little fatigue relief?
