Usually around this time of year I am completely stressed out by finals, long papers and finding the perfect gift for everyone. Okay, I still am, but on my run the other day I was able to completely clear my head and take in some great scenery. Running from street light to street light I saw the delicate flight of tiny snowflakes under each lamp. The light flutter of the snow illuminated under a most flattering soft light was absolutely beautiful. The lamps were like a series of tiny spotlights for a snowflake ballet. Other than my growing appreciation for Underarmor and polar fleece, I began to really appreciate the beauty of the snow. I’ve always thought it pretty; bright white blankets and so forth, but I’ve never seen it in this light, literally.

So until I can go home to the smells of Christmas cookies in the oven, a warm fire in the hearth, candles and everything warm, I will appreciate something cold. The beauty of the snow brings back a childhood comfort: snow days, snow forts, snow angel -- and having a neighborhood battle royale snowball fight. Seeing the snow only reminds me of this childhood wonder and excitement; the magic that surrounds the season may just be captured by the smallest thing: a snowflake.

Snow is very pretty... until it piles up a foot and a half deep and your car gets stuck in it on the way to work.
