Cabaret (part of the WCIA 3 Broadway Series) »

The last of the WCIA-3 Broadway series is coming to University of Illinois’ Assembly Hall. The nationally touring production of “Cabaret” will be on Saturday, April 24, at 7:30 p.m.

“We’ve had it before, but it’s a newer production,” said Jennifer Larson, assistant director of marketing at the Assembly Hall.

The show, which is still touring, revolves around the Kit Kat Club, a club that will make you forget all of your troubles.

Sally Bowles, the main character, is trying to hit it big as a cabaret performer. She falls in love with an American writer named Cliff Bradshaw.

Set in 1929 when the Nazis were rising to power, Sally tries to forget about Cliff and rise to fame. “Cabaret” has won 12 Tony awards, including Best Revival in 1998.

The show has been booked since last summer and is the last in the Broadway series. Larson said that the series has about 1,000 patrons.

“There aren’t any other facilities in our area that can accommodate these productions,” she said. “We meet a community need.”

This is the first year that the television station WCIA-3 has sponsored this series. The position was formally held by the News-Gazette.

Larson said that the station is very supportive. “It’s a good partnership for both of us,” she said.

Tickets range from $35 to $42, with a $10 discount for UIUC students. Group tickets are available for a $2 discount.

Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster or the Assembly Hall box office.
