First dates are always nerve-wracking. From thinking of conversation starters, to hours of primping, to that oh-so-dreaded first kiss attempt, one can only wonder: Is dating overrated?

While not the cure for a hygienically-challenged date or dull conversationalist, Radio Maria offers tasty, affordable food, an impressive list of spirits and romantic decor to smooth over first-date blues.

“A good amount of it is ambience,” says General Manager and Sommelier David Bohula. “It’s quality food and beverages for a reasonable price.”

Open for lunch, dinner, late-night snacking and Sunday brunch, Radio Maria and its eclectic menu continue to keep its patrons happy.

From a shrimp pad thai for $16 to a coffee-encrusted filet of beef for $28, each dish offers its own unique twist. For lighter fare, try the tapas menu with prices ranging from $3.50 to $8.50.

The only thing that could rival Radio Maria’s menu is its bar. Winos alike will be delighted over one of the largest selections in CU. Beer aficionados will also rejoice at the large variety of beers that range from imported German beers to good ol’ PBR. For those looking for something with a kick, try Caiparinha, a popular Brazilian cocktail for $5 or Ernest Hemingway’s favorite drink, Death in the Afternoon, for $7.

With its charm and ambience, Bohula agrees that Radio Maria is ideal for a date, whether you are first-timers or in a long-term relationship.

“It’s a very relaxed atmosphere,” Bohula says.
