Nearly four decades of history, memories and tradition are captured in the deeply engraved tables at Murphy’s Pub. More than just a beer and burger joint, Murphy’s provides customers with a social atmosphere and great service that earns it the title of Best Campus Bar.
No one understands good service better than Ryan Block, the general manager who starts work at 6:30 a.m. With a smile on his face, he describes a typical night at Murphy’s as being friendly and laid-back.
“Well, except on game-day,” he added with a chuckle.
Students feel the same relaxed vibe.
“It’s a place where you can escape the typical bar scene and just hang out with your friends,” junior Jackie Gola commented.
If the welcoming environment doesn’t draw people in, it’s the aroma of juicy burgers and fresh-cut fries.
“The bacon mega cheese burger is the most popular item on the menu,” said Block.
Customers can also explore the wide variety of draft beers at discounted prices during feature nights.
“Wednesdays are logo glass nights. You can buy the featured beer and keep the glass,” Block said.
On Thursdays, Murphy’s offers imported draft beers for $2 a pint.
Expect a festive feeling in March during Irish Fest: corned beef and cabbage will be added to the menu, as well as green beer. Patrons can purchase logo glasses and receive discounted refills all month long.
With times for relaxation and celebration, it’s no wonder how Murphy’s attracts 600 people daily. There are always new faces and old friends.
“A lot of alumni will come back and find where they carved their names years ago,” said Block.
Block encourages people to etch their memories into the booths.
“It’s Murphy’s. It’s tradition,” he said.
Although people have left their mark on Murphy’s, after 39 years of satisfying customers, Murphy’s Pub has also truly left it’s mark on CU.
