The Blind Pig is a rustic pub smack dab in the middle of downtown Champaign. Customers frequent this off-campus bar for a chill evening out. Matt Wondra, a former University student, said, “It feels like a really good place to come to have an intimate night with friends.” Wondra likes the dark alcoves, creating an ambiance fit for conversation.
Erin Donovan, a UIUC grad student, likes the chill mood the bar creates. “The whole purpose of coming is to just hang out with your friends. It’s just not to get drunk or get laid,” Donovan stated. “You might get drunk, maybe you get laid, but the purpose is to be able to hang out and relax.”
Aside from the atmosphere, Donovan said she enjoys the wide beer selection, often ordering different wheat beers. The cask-conditioned beer sits tight with her friend. This beer matures naturally and is unfiltered or pasteurized.
Wondra also takes advantage of the beer selection, and said each time he comes to The Blind Pig, he asks the bartender for his or her opinion and is always pleasantly surprised by their knowledge.
The pub even has a e-mail list to send updates of their new beer selections. If it’s good beer and babble you are looking for, The Blind Pig can serve it up.
