The most notoriously haunted cemetery in the Champaign-Urbana area is Clements Cemetery. The "Blue Man" supposedly resides in the graveyard. Depending on the source, it is said his name either came from the ghost's family name or because he glows blue in the moonlight. The story has been around for over a century and a half since a man was found hanging near the cemetery in the early 19th century. People speculate that he either committed suicide or was lynched. In the twilight reportedly he can be seen walking down the road swinging around a lantern. The graveyard is east of Urbana on North High Cross Road.

Another cemetery to visit in the University's backyard is Mount Hope Cemetery west of Pennsylvania and Florida Avenue Residence Halls amd north of Kirby Avenue. Though this Victorian graveyard has no specific folklore associated with it, anything can happen on All Hallows' Eve.
